I’ve shared before of my journey of recovering from being a control-addict Mom. I wanted to protect my children from any harm that might come their way. While that may sound noble, my motive was fear and as I fear and worried I was not walking in God’s perfect love.
Control is an attempt of trying to protect yourself or loved ones by your own wisdom and your own strength. However, as Daughters of the King, we are doing ourselves a great disservice in not trusting our Father and His love for us.
Love promotes peace.
Fear promotes trying to control others.
Love promotes joy and wholeness. Fear promotes sadness and depression.
Love promotes our need for Christ and His Spirit.
Fear promotes panic and self-reliance.
When we attempt to try to control others and situations that are out of our control, we are trying to play God.
However, as we receive God’s perfect love for us and walk in that love, we can rest in the fact that God is the One in control and we are not…..even when we think we are.
Even though we are not in control of the world or our loved ones, We are in control of our responses and choices. We can choose to trust God. We can choose to pray for our loved ones before jumping in to “save the day”. We can choose to respond in faith……faith in a God that is trust-worthy and faithful.
I want to encourage you today if you are struggling with letting go of control and fear. As scary as it seems sometimes, there is power and peace in surrendering your “control” unto the Lord.
Surrender your worries, opinions, anxieties and fears and let God be God while resting in His love. It may not happen overnight. You might lay them down, pick them up and lay them down a dozen of times. However, God honors your willingness to be willing!
He is a patient and loving God! He understands that we are but dust and we need Him. He is not expecting perfection, just a yielded heart walking in His love.
