I think sometimes we are our own worst critic. We focus on our few extra pounds, new wrinkles, frizzy or graying hair and we feel we just can’t keep up with everyone.

Well, guess what? We don’t have to keep up with anyone! In Christ, we are complete. Instead of focusing on our outer appearance maybe we should focus on our hearts. Are we filled with Christ and continuing to fill up on His Word and Spirit? Are we spending more time on trying to look younger or prettier than we are pressing into Christ and His will for us?

I am not saying it’s bad to look the best we can. I am saying it’s not top priority as a daughter of the Most High King. We are loved and accepted just as we are. He looks on our hearts. He looks to see if our hearts are turned towards Him. He looks to see if we are yielding to His Holy Spirit. He can’t be fooled by good make-up and the latest hair color.

So take a long look in the mirror. It is okay that you aren’t as young as you once were . Remind yourself that Jesus loves you dearly and completely and His love is what your identity is based upon. Not only does He love us, He knows that only IN HIM we can truly be the best version of ourselves!
