What is Love?

This world has many answers for that question ranging from strong feelings, sexual attraction, needing someone to “complete you” and more.

However, if we really want to know what love is , we will need to look in God’s Word.

In Corinthians, Paul instructs and encourages the church of Corinth in how to walk in Christ and glorify Him by their behavior. In 1 Corinthians 13, he tells about love and how it is the most excellent way. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 tells us clearly what true love is:

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable and keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures every circumstance. (NLT)

Only God can produce a love like the Bible describes. When we are filled with His Spirit, we too can love this way. Love is not being passive about sin but being passionate about worshipping the Lord with all we have and letting His Spirit flow in our hearts. When we are fully submitted to Christ, He can, by His Spirit, flow through us to love the way we are called to love.

I truly want all I do to be done in Love and I know I must have my Savior’s strength to do so. When I am submitted to Christ, I can work, minister, clean, cook, write, take care of children, play the piano and love my family all in God’s love. The moment I start to put myself on the throne of my heart, is the moment the love stops flowing.

Father, help me to love you fully as You have loved me. Lord, help ALL that I do flow out of submitted loving heart under Your control. Amen
