In Psalm 46, we are told that God is our refuge. Oxford dictionary tells us that refuge means the state of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or difficulty.
What a comfort to know that our God shelters us.
You may say, “But wait, I have trouble in my life and I’m a Christian”.
John 16:33 tells us that we will have many trials and sorrows on this earth. However, when we are in Christ, He shelters us and protects us. We may never know what all He has saved us from. He never wanted us to hurt.
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, the nature of sin passed on to each and everyone of us. Jesus was the answer to this sinful nature. He was the perfect sacrifice and He and only He can give us a new nature. Sin brings pain therefore we all will experience pain on this earth. However, God promises us that He can take any pain we do experience and turn it around for our good. (Romans 8:28) He is an awesome God and Refuge. He gives strength to the weak. He protects us, shields us and loves us. What a mighty God we serve!
So, if you are facing trouble today, just remember God wants to be your refuge. Run to Him for love, shelter and strength. His strength can be made perfect in your weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9) He loves you and as you travel through this life He will not only be your refuge but will lead you safely all the way home to Heaven to live forevermore. It’s the best of both worlds!
