Fix your eyes

Lately, the Lord has been reminding me about the importance of perseverance. Oxford dictionary tells us that perseverance is the persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.

As daughters of Christ, we are on a journey. The key to staying on God’s path and persevering through the obstacles of this life is keeping our focus fixed firm on Jesus.

If we look away from the Lord, we get distracted and fearful. When we allow our focus to be divided, we fall easily. However, if we keep Christ the center of our lives, in all that we do, He refreshes and strengthens us.

Corrie Ten Boom says it well:

“If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed.

If you look within, you’ll be depressed.

If you look at God you’ll be at rest.”

Hebrews 12:2 says: Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

It really matters what we think about! Our mindset affects our emotions and our emotions affect our decisions. Keeping Jesus the primary focus of our minds and hearts is the key to a victorious life.

How do we “fix” our eyes on Jesus?

  • We remind ourselves of his very real presence and we acknowledge Him.
  • We spend time talking to Him, repenting of sin, praising Him and listening to Him.
  • We get into His Word daily and let His Word get into us!

May we always fix our eyes on the Lord!
