Loving a Prodigal-Post 5🩵

As important as doing spiritual warfare and choosing to believe God’s word over your emotions, is receiving God’s forgiveness and grace when you get it wrong.

There will be a time you make a mistake or wrong choice dealing with your prodigal. Maybe you gave that money that you really didn’t think was a wise decision. Or maybe you said some careless words while confronting your prodigal. Shame and condemnation falls on you like a thick fog making it hard to see clearly. Your mind races with thoughts such as ” If I had only done this” or ” if only I hadn’t done that.”

What do you do when as a parent you make a mistake in dealing with your prodigal?

1. Receive God’s grace. He’s already given it to you, but you must receive it personally. His grace is sufficient to cover you and your mistakes.

2. Ask God’s forgiveness and receive it fully. 1 John 1:9 assures us that as we confess our sin He will forgive us.

3. Reach out to your prayer warrior group for extra prayer support. Most times when we feel heavy sorrow we are more vulnerable to Satan’s attacks.

4. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Asking your prodigal to forgive you of hasty words or a wrong decision doesn’t mean you should over compensate by giving money or any other kind of help that God has already instructed you not to do.

5. Get in God’s word and meditate on truth. Renew your mind by the Word of God. (Romans 12:2)

6. Fix your eyes back on Jesus….not on yourself or your prodigal. Remember all that God has already done and anticipate all He will do in the future. Start thanking Him for His love and faithfulness. (Hebrews 12:2)

7. Don’t give up. Our God is bigger than this mountain. Galatians 6:9

Praying for you. If you need extra prayer, please reach out to us.❤️
