Do you ever wake up and feel the weight of anxiety upon you? Thoughts are swirling around in your head and you feel panic in your heart. If you haven’t guessed already, I will tell you that I have. Some mornings I have actually felt anxiety as I opened my eyes.
However, I have a choice of what to do with that feeling of anxiety. Will I run with it and let my heart and mind follow? Will I dwell on my fears and worries? Do I daydream of the worst possible scenario?
Ā OR
Will I take that anxiety straight to the Lord asking for His intervention? Will I remember that He loves me and that His Word tells me that He will never leave me? Will I daydream of all He can do?Ā Do I remember that ALL things work to my good in the Lord?
When I choose to take my emotions, thoughts and worries to the Lord, God turns my worries into thankfulness. I remind myself of what the Lord has done in the past…..how He saved me…..met my needs…..protected me……and the list goes on. There are endless reasons why we can offer up praise to the Lord. Choosing to focus on what you are thankful for combats anxiety and worry and reminds yourself that you serve a capable and powerful God that loves you! When I focus back on the Lord, gratitude starts to fill my heart.
Anxiety is a real thing….however, gratitude is too and far more productive! We can’t “make” anxiety feelings go away but we can choose how we respond to them and as we focus on the Lord, God’s Spirit can bring peace when nothing else can. (Isaiah 26:3)š§”
