Take Captive Every Thought

Loving a Prodigal (Post 4)

Last week we talked about waiting on the Lord. While you wait upon God to bring your prodigal to a place of repentance, keep your mindset healthy and focused on Christ.

The Apostle Paul told the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 10 that as Christians we do not live by the standards of this world and we do not wage war as the world does. In Christ, we have the power to demolish strongholds. By His power we take captive thoughts that are contrary to His Word and will. We can pray over our prodigal but we also need to keep our thoughts lined up with God’s Word.

Keeping our minds set upon God and His Word is not always an easy task when in the middle of the night you wake up with concern for your prodigal. However, it is in those times that by the power of God and His word, you demolish all the scary thoughts you’re having and instead choose to believe God and His promises. It is really easy to focus on the evil and progressively lose hope when we are not keeping our eyes fixed on Christ. We picture our prodigal in a ditch or in a jail cell. We sometimes even picture answering the door and seeing a policeman standing there with bad news. Our imagination can take us way down a slippery slope of despair.

But God!

As daughters of Christ, we don’t have to live as if we have no hope. There is always hope in Christ and as we continue praying, breaking strong holds and taking captive every thought and making it obedient to Christ, then peace can come even in the midst of the storm.

Whatever storm you find yourself in today, please don’t give up and please don’t give in to despair. You are not alone. Christ is fighting this battle with you and for you and He loves you and your prodigal very much. He sees everything and He has a plan. Our job is to wait, stand firm, battle in prayer and believe in HIM.

Praying for you🩵
